Dante with a pensive post-haircut vibe
The heart of this foundation started beating the moment we lost him. There was such an outpouring of love for our guy—in the GoFundMe generosity that began this endowment—in the socially-distanced drive-by home visitation that stretched for miles—in the stories that are told by hundreds of people in our lives—that we knew that all this positive Dante juju had to continue making the world better in some concrete way.
We had the original logo done within a couple of weeks, which amazes me now that I look back, but we were committed. We formed a board, made a mission statement, incorporated a nonprofit, and came up with the idea for a 3x3 bball tournament as the main fundraiser, because our guy loved his sports.
We set a goal of a $50,000 endowment, so that we could fund the largest annual scholarship at Jonathan Law, his second home, to continue for decades (with some minor, topping-off social events). And this year we should get to that number, with one last jolt of Dante magic 🪄. As everyone knows who’s been here, this tournament has been everything good—sweet, hilarious, fierce, confused, generous, loving and fun—just like him.
You are invited to participate in any way you choose. We need teams. We need raffle prizes. We need auction items. We need sponsors. We need volunteers. We need refs. We need spectators. Absolutely everything depends on your help and on the spirit of the guy who got us here.
It’s been a blast. Join us one last time 💖 Lisa
